New! ‘WOW’ Recruitment Pack:
‘The Wonder of Working with people with learning disabilities’
The Lancashire Learning Disability Consortium (LLDC) has produced a DVD and leaflet that will hopefully encourage people to consider the joys and challenges of working with people with a learning disability. The new DVD gives a real-life insight into what it is like to work with people with learning disabilities. It features real people who tell their own stories and gives a true-to-life introduction to the different aspects of working with people with learning disabilities. To watch a 5 minute clip of the DVD click on this link http://www.keystonecreative.co.uk/wow_film.htm and then click on the WOW logo. “You can make a difference to people like us” says Natalie, a young woman with learning disabilities, who takes a starring role. The DVD also features support workers of all ages who describe how fulfilling and rewarding they find their jobs, and . . .
illustrates the different ways in which people with learning disabilities are supported to live full and interesting lives. The film shows how carers could be supporting someone to go to the gym, to a café or to work; helping them go shopping, prepare a meal or do household chores; even go with them on holiday. The DVD also introduces the potential career paths open to support workers, who are offered the chance to acquire NVQ qualifications alongside their work. The leaflet was designed in consultation with a group of people with learning disabilities and their support staff. The message on the leaflet and DVD is “Everybody needs the chance to live a life of their choosing, and you could help people to achieve this” To find out more about working with people who have a learning disability and contact details of local organisations please click on LLDC members, in the Main Menu, then click on any of the organisations in the drop down menu, or you can email
