Following a successful 2 year pilot project which was to support people at their ESA/PIP medical assessments in the Preston area, ICANN has been successfully awarded 3 years funding from the Big Lottery Fund to extend the service across the whole County, including Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen.

From 1 May 2016 ICANN have been able to continue to provide support to residents of Preston, Chorley and South Ribble and have now extended support to West Lancashire citizens attending assessments in Ormskirk.

ICANN will be holding a flagship event at their AGM on 15 September 2016 to include the official launch of the project to the rest of the County from 1 October 2016.

They can support any residents of Lancashire who are being assessed for:

  • ESA either at home or the assessment centres in Preston, Burnley, Blackpool or Lancaster.
  • PIP either at home or the assessment centres in Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool, Lancaster or Ormskirk.

Ways in which they can help include:

  • Pre assessment support to explain the process, provide information and discuss support needs
  • Help to prepare for the assessment
  • Attendance at the assessment to ensure that the person’s voice is heard and support them in providing information to the assessor.

Following assessment they contact clients for outcomes and customer service feedback.  They are also able to support via signposting where appropriate to other services including agencies that can help if they are unsuccessful with their claim.

All our advocates, including volunteer advocates have had extra training regarding the medical assessment process. They are also DBS checked and are supported and supervised.

Referrals can be made by individuals or by anyone acting on their behalf including professionals/other organisations working with them.

They also accept referrals by telephone, email or via their website. Please get in touch if you have any questions or you would like them to send you a supply of our leaflets.
